The Guise Hotel
The Guise is a boutique hotel located within the footprint of the Standard High Line in New York City. The concept of this space draws from the historical convergence of old and new within the meatpacking district and considers how the voyeuristic nature of the site might be impacted by oppositional characteristics. Using light, the space plays with transparency, translucency, opacity and reflection to manipulate notions of perception and recognizability, re-interpreting what it feels like to see and be seen.
Sketches shown are of original designs, the Wythe Hotel in Brooklyn, NY and Chelsea Market in New York, NY.
Craft Restaurant and Community Kitchen
Craft is a seafood restaurant and community culinary school located within the historic CPA building in Detroit, MI. Inspired by the materiality of an old maritime craft, the space utilizes a system of shipyard rope screens to divide and weave together dining, commercial kitchen and community kitchen spaces. These rope screens merge together above the central community kitchen to form a large scale woven lighting feature.
